About. The Peter Mckee Community Centre is named after Peter McKee, a Catholic priest who presided over several local churches and served as a chaplain for the Moncton firefighters and the Royal Canadian Legion & Ladies Auxiliary.
Outside the church, Peter was very active within the local community and was a board member for several organizations including St. Thomas University, House of Nazareth, St. Patrick’s Family Centre, Big Brothers/Big Sisters and the Villa Providence in Shediac. He also helped found the Ray of Hope Soup Kitchen and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Irishtown Lions Club. In 2000, he was recognized by the local rotary club for his numerous community contributions with a Paul Harris Fellowship Award. Peter passed away in 2006 at the age of 69. To maintain Peter’s legacy, the Community Food Centre has combined three Moncton food banks to assist more than 1,500 families through a holistic, community-based approach to food security. In addition to food access, we provide a variety of necessary services including a community garden, teaching kitchen, community boardroom and educational programs. We recognize that each circumstance is unique, and will do whatever we can to help you feel empowered, confident and secure. |
